Pocket knifes
« on: November 12, 2017, 08:54:36 AM »
Ok so I'm looking for just the right one for a guy that made the trek down to new Mexico for a hunt this year with me. It was along way to go to be a helper and I'd like to show my appreciation. He told me about a dbl bladed buck that was black that was stolen from him years ago that I tried to find and cannot. The buck trapper just isn't nice enough so I'm thinking just a nice pocket folder.
Trying for under 150$. What do you guys carry.

Without more info on the particular knife he described its tough to say what he had. I think vintage Bucks are awesome, the 317 is a large 2 blade folder or the 380 is a smaller more trapper like folder. Buck made a Selector in a 2 blade model. the 428 i think or similar. All of the above are available on Ebay. Several in mint condition. Probably in your price range.

Not trying to discourage from a new blade. As 150 will likely buy alot more knife now. But something about gutting a buck with an old knife is just plain cool to me.

The 317 is what I'd like to get him. It seems closest to what he had. I wish I had an eBay account. I'll keep looking. Agreed on skinning a deer with a classic. Keep the ideas coming.

I am not super familiar with Ebay, but have bought several items over the years. I think its fairly easy to signup to purchase items.

I prefer to pocket carry rather than sheath. So my go to blades are a little smaller than the 317.  My go to is a 500 series Duke. I really like the lockblade and slimmer profile for daily carry. One I carry alot for hunting is the 307 stockman. Multiple blades and hefty feel, this knife can do it all, from breaking down a buck, camp chores, and daily cutting work.

Let us know what happens

Google Buck 317 and there are other places that have them other than ebay. American Edge, Jay's Knives...

I have had a Uncle Henry Usa Made 127uh for 40 plus years and it has been a fantastic knife, especially for ripping up through the sternum of elk.  The blade is thin and takes a razor edge and the handle is big enough to get a good grip on.  I also carry a buck stockman #371 and it has been a fantastic little knife.
