Wife's new dog
« on: November 16, 2017, 05:29:55 PM »
My wife is looking to replace an aging lap dog. I mentioned that she should find a larger breed that would fit in with her horseback riding and a sporting breed would be a plus if it were to accompany my GWP and I on our many excursions. We are active and have acreage to roam. She did some searching and has fallen in love with the possibility of finding a Small Muensterlander. Anybody here have any experience with this breed?

SM's are my favorite medium sized dog; though not as fast as the larger versatiles (GWP's, PP's, GSP's, etc.) they are completely capable in the field, and cute as all hell to boot.

I have no breeder to recommend, our local SM kennel owner passed on last year leaving a gap in the PNW. I will share a couple of links to get you started though:

English setter of field variety is also worth a look at,  run 30 to fifty pounds, love to run, good around horses, the girls think they are cute, get a female and spay it. They have a switch, GO and " I'm  just minding my own buisness looking like multi colored carpet over here". 95 percent of them are better than average field dogs that most hunters brag about. Lots of inherited ability.

Not to derail the thread but I have a friend looking to rehome their catahoula. She's 7 months old. Pm me for more info and pics if your interested. Their family just has too much on their plate to take care of her properly.
