We speak in a lot of generally terms, and it will vary on the situation. But for the most part what I said is true for most people.  I try to let the birds tell me how he wants to be called and adjust accordingly.  You might also be talking eastside versus westside birds ... my 2 cents worth, it's 2 different ballgames.  It also depends on what time of day you're talking about .... if he's on the roost or on the ground  I notice that if he answers mid-morning to mid-afternoon, I will most likely be giving him a piggy-back ride to my truck. 

Do you know the easiest way to call a bird? --- its the direction he wants to go ... ie - if you have done your scouting, you don't even have to call the bird.
