Foxpro or another gun I won't shoot
« on: February 28, 2009, 11:21:19 PM »
Economy is down, side jobs are up.  I got fun-cash burning a hole so cost not an issue.  Are the fancy e-callers like foxpro fury a total waste of cash or should I just buy another gun I may never shoot. I bought three of those last year.  It's a sickness.  Neither safe really closes easy anymore so leaning towards the fury.  I like the remote range and dual simultaneous sound idea.  My mouth calls are light, get howl-backs and lots of raptors responding, but few dogs exit the timber. Any fox-pro users have any input? Are FP's really the bee's knees?  Last blood has seemed to really set the hook.

If you have "enough" guns (I know, you can never have enough) then other toys are a good thing to have. I have not used the FP Fury, but I do know that FP has a great warranty and pretty good customer service.

If you are looking for an ecall I would keep FP at the top of the list.

Definitely get the Foxpro rather than a new gun. The Foxpro will provide targets for the guns you already have! I always hate to see guns just being stored in a safe and never used. On the upside I guess it keeps the gun makers in business. But with a Foxpro you can hunt year 'round. Coyotes, crows, bobcats, cougars, bears...all can be called in. Much more worthwhile than just having another gun in your safe to look at. I wish I had the money to buy one.

While the Foxpro can be useful, a gun usually keeps it's value. I haven't seen many e-callers that are worth the same original price or more after 5 yrs. Of course right now most gun prices are highly inflated, the counrty is in a depression so do the patrotric thing and buy the Foxpro and help out a small USA business. At least that would be my reasoning :chuckle:

You could always buy thousands of rounds of ammo so that those guns at least have a chance to be shot when ammo dissapears.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

I would go with the Foxpro.  You have it sounds like a couple of safes full, and you probably shoot the same 3 all the time anyhow so go with something that will put those rifles to good use.

Look for an old 416 with a late model remote TLX, it's only a 16 sound rig but will hold almost all the sounds you'll ever need. With the money you save over a fury get another gun or scope.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

thanks for the advise guys, was looking at the tandem sound feature on the Fury.  Ordered one through APcalls....on a short waiting list and 7-10 days for shipping.  Just before April's dumb pups are born.  Cabellas had in-stock but $50 for tax and unnecessary moose sounds vs. my choice and $10 shipping, I can wait a few weeks.  Getting anxious about May now anyway.... first time to Saskatoon for snow geese!!!  I want to see if I can melt the barrel on the msbrg 935.  I hear the 'skeeters are big enough to land in the field, stand flatfooted and F@%& your bird dog.
