I can't help myself here.  257 WBY, There is no way that you can build a complete custom rifle for half the cost.  Rbro's doesn't charge nearly what other companies do and you get a lot more for your money.  Look at how much some other companies are charging and doesn't come with load development.  All gunsmiths aren't created equal either.  It's pretty easy to add up the cost of the parts.  Only way i could see someone saving money is using a donor Rem 700 action that would need to be trued.

Alright, have you ever spec’d a rifle, ordered all parts by yourself, and had it put together?  Like by yourself, without talking to a smith? If so how many? Sorry couldn’t help myself...
That's enough. We get it. Now please let the the people who are actually interested in this thread enjoy it without your hijacking it. Thank you.

I've been tolerant, don't want to be overly heavy handed in my own thread. Grundy put the warning out there.  Enjoy the dreaming and post up or move on.

Some people's kids...   :chuckle:

I'd be hard pressed to leave my favorite caliber, 7mm Rem Mag. But if someone was twisting my arm, I'd probably end up with its slightlier more hipster cousin, the 280AI, Carbon Hunter.

Time to bump this. I'd like to  include the caliber portion of this as well. I don't need lethality to a thousand yards and am hard pressed to find a better caliber for my needs than the trusty 7mm rem mag. I hope to go see Travis next month or Feb to finalize the build plans.

the .280AI would. Not be a bad choice👍 Very efficient for an all-around 7mm caliber rifle!

Take a look at the 28 Nosler if you haven’t.

How do feel about barrell life?

About the same as other “hot” rounds. It’ll eat barrels but I’m not sure I’d worry too much. It’s fairly cheap to replace a barrel. I’m 350 rounds through mine now and it hasn’t started opening up. Only shooting 3200 FPS currently.

That would be a fun round for an enthusiast, but if the OP is looking for a custom he's going to keep forever maybe the 7mmRM would be a better fit.  This is your first big custom h20?

How do feel about barrell life?

Barrel life is way over talked by the majority. Especially when it comes to factory ammo.  With the 28 Nosler, factory ammo is running a guy on the average of $60.00 a box (Per 20). Lets be conservative and say the barrel will go 1K for true accuracy. That's $3000.00 bucks in ammo. Isn't going to happen for the majority of the bargain shoppers out ther. Call it 1500 rounds of handloads, still close to the same figure.

99% of people who talk about barrel life. HAVE NEVER SHOT OUT A BARREL! A custom barrel to boot.

Build it, hunt with it, enjoy it and don't worry about it.

Yes. 100%. Some of my thoughts are the 7mm rem mag is a tried and true round. If spending this kind of coin I want to stay in state. I value the fact that I can go to where they do the build, meet the man in this case, and go from there. This to me is like investing in art. I appreciate the end result and will own it forever.

ya...I'd say get your first one out of the way, love it hug it marry it, then 5-10 years from now when your looking for some strange then get something a little bit more exotic.

Perfect! Some of us knocked our first custom off 25 years ago! Back when 25-284's weren't cool. Their all fun, but the they come and go. There is a select few a guy keeps beating up over the years.
