That pack in the third to last photo looks freakin huge/heavy/painfull. Looks like a good camp though.

how many days did you go in for? those packs look huge! I have adapted the theroy that everything in my pack should be used by the last day of my hunt, and if I did not use it, it does not go next year. my mtn house containers get used for water bags, I only pack enough water to get me to the second place I might get water, usually 80ish oz. I run a down bag and wrap it in my betamid, that keeps it dry and saves space and bulk. the big agnes rem sleeping pads are the size of a beer bottle comperssed, and are light......and you can't sleep any better. I take spare undies and socks and lazer clothes, and always a hat. I have managed to get a pack weight w/o water into the mid 30# area.....depending on weather.
it still looks like you had a blast, better luck next year.

I thought the same thing Slider. Cool picture. You should have tracked him down. Only advice I can give you is lighten your pack if you can, and I'm sure you know that now. What high country said about if you didn't use it this trip, probably try to leave it out next year. As for places to go, you are in a good area. Most years you would have ran into more deer. This year the population is really down, so don't give up just because of this years results. Make sure your mobile. Where I was at, all the deer were at a certain elevation due to the previous weeks storm, and early onset of rut. Make sure you are mobile enough to go where they are. Bear usually don't bother the deer much this time of year, but sometimes the presence of predators will move the deer out of normally good areas. For instance, there is a wolf population that is going fairly strong in the area you were at. They really pushed the deer out from where I was hunting a couple years ago. That was the last time I was there. Cats will do that too, and also make the deer way spookier than normal. Just things to consider when you are on the mountain. Problem is, you don't know these things until you are there, and then there isn't much you can do about it.
