If it's skull and horns are in good shape, you should call WDFW and see if they can salvage it.  They may give it to a school or use for hunters education.  Just a thought.

Call it in. They will want to try and figure out why it died. Lead poisoning, disease etc.

Yep, federal offense if caught with one not plugged by a department of fish and game from which state or province it came from in North America.

As mentioned above please let fish and game know, there are a bunch of different things going on with the sheep herds, some are in trouble and every loss is important.

On occasion they will let you keep it.   Roll the dice if you want to be legit. If it’s a trophy, the odds aren’t in your favor.    If you decide to keep it illegally, I guess you roll the dice the other way whether or not you’ll get busted.

Any reason a salvage permit couldn't be used?  We are allowed to salvage deer and elk, why not a ram?

Because those are the only animals covered under the salvage law...

"The rule specifically applies to deer and elk killed by motor vehicles...."

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

It's very unlikely that they will let you have it, the bio doesn't have final say, Rich Harris the sheep, goat moose manager for the WDFW is the one that decides. They keep the heads of the sheep that are killed by disease of accidents and try to auction them to make money for research.

Should be finders keepers if you can legitimately prove that it was a naturally rotted carcass with no foul play. Otherwise it would have just ended up rat food anyway if you hadn't found it! Course the power brokers will exercise their power to the fullest, so don't hold your breath! Good luck

It's sad when the State has to auction stuff like this when we as hunters put so much money into the General fund so that we end up being cash crop for programs and orgs that wouldn't survive without it
