Covering the floor in cat traps?
« on: November 29, 2017, 01:30:19 PM »
Starting to cage trap bobcats this season with my dad and I know there will be a learning curve. What are you guys doing on the wire floors of your boxes and trudles? In AK I use crumpled wax paper then re opened up over my traps then a little snow. But we are talking a 7" area not a giant box.

I cover the floor with leaves including the pan if it is not freezing. If it's freezing don't put anything on the pan that will freeze. I cover the top of the trap with a piece of trash bag during freezing weather or snow to help keep the trap functioning properly.
 Good luck this season.

I use leaves too but I have wire triggers so no pan to freeze up plus I don't get snow very often.

I don't trap cats until there's snow on the ground and my cages are a wire  trigger system with that being said I prefer carpeting the floor with moss or press the cage down in the snow so the floor is counter sunk and lightly pat the snow inside

I gather a bunch of moss and leaves  dry them out in the garage and throw them in the truck when it gets cold and close to freezing I feel like it helps from freezing the floor pan style that I use  :twocents:

Having never trapped cats, just wondering if some used unscented cat litter would help as a scent attractant?

If it was used cat litter and in the back of the trap it could not hurt.
