A long ways. 400 yards probably.    Most of the pics of him are too blurry.  Shooting with a 2x doubler. Documentary pics only.   I filmed him twice.   I didn’t even realize it.    I saw the buck cruising. I had Daisy smack the antlers together and he stopped for the shot. Then off he went.

I wouldn't shoot him.  Last time I shot a swollen neck 4pt I had a heck of a time getting it ate. I think it irresponsible to knock down a nice buck and do it a disservice by letting it freezer burn in the bottom of a deep freeze not getting ate then finally tossed out with the trash.  I got it ate, but I heard some complaining.  Did a lot of 50/50 burgers.

I'm working on changing that, I've got a cold smoker now and I'm fixing to build a curing chamber, so now I can ferment meat and make stuff so tasty even a swollen neck stinky old buck will get ate, until then I'll shoot them early, and younger, so they'll get ate properly.

I agree with you. But a lot of times the smaller bucks are the stinkiest. If I get a rutty buck I make it all into summer sausage or prop sticks. Add enough pork and seasoning to disguise the rutt taste
