GunWerks just released their new action for custom builds.
« on: November 16, 2017, 06:59:04 AM »
GunWerks just released their new custom action for rifle builds. Always nice to see another option custom action wise. At a introductory price of $750.00 it will be a option in the Stiller price range. I like the fact it has a Rem700 foot print and I like their tri lock machined recoil lug feature.

That's a pretty good price point for a custom action.

I've grown fond of the Tuebor action recently. I got a chance to play around with one a while back and they have a lot of features similar to the Gunwerks action. I have to say though, I've never had an issue with my cases hitting the scope and coming back into the action.

I wonder what the tolerances are with such a low price.  Looks interesting for sure though.

I like the three prong recoil lug idea.

I wonder if they make it in house or source it out, and to who?

Someone buy one and report how smooth bolt travel and lift is and how true it is!

:yeah:  Never trust that mfg or builder secured rail - they commonly don’t.  Put some green loctite or epoxy under rail, blue on the screws and torque to spec.   Some builders like to think proper torque is all thats needed. Don’t believe it.

Not to my aesthetic tastes.  The finish looks like galvanized water pipe and the bolt handle reminds me if some kind of industrial fitting or the handle on this

Boy JD your bolt can double as a spork when out there hunting

Is that a tactical fork, because the bolt handle absolutely is tactical.   :chuckle:

I don't know about that, but it seems to me as though it is becoming more and more the case that bolt handles that impress me as more at home on some military application are showing up on hunting rifles.  Military bolt action rifles have always sacrificed form to function when it came to bolt handles, but the expectation is that bent and/or corroded ammunition is expected.  In sporting applications, where there is not the expectation of battlefield conditions to overcome, aesthetics have been a big part of what makes up a classic bolt action sporting rifle.

I guess if a guy has some sort of congenital deformity or injury to their hand/fingers then a bolt handle of that nature may provide some real benefit, or if the owner is incapable of reloading ammunition to pressure levels that do not result in stuck cases it might be of benefit to have an industrial strength bolt handle to grab hold of and pry the action open, but for me I prefer something much more refined on a sporting rifle.

Or possibly it makes sense for those of us with arthritis or who wear gloves when shooting in 20 degree temps in January. But I honestly believe that it’s driven more by aesthetics than anything. If they didn’t sell, they wouldn’t make them.

I like that you can field strip the bolt.

$750 doesn't seem horrible but my hunting rifle was $425 with 4 boxes of ammo... with mounts and scope $1075.

Who on here is going to build the first rifle off this action and what's the cartridge?
