When you get the access permit, they give you a map of the area, and it does show the lakes. Navigating using their map is another story. Never duck hunted specifically, but we did jumpshoot a couple times, but we never saw many ducks. It could be better in the a.m. though.

It can be good at times.  You can only hunt weekends and wed.  Also holidays.  We'll probably hit it on the opener.  A hunting buddy of mine is stationed there and he has a pretty good handle on the waterfowl situation there.

Good luck

my plan was to mostly hunt post... but the system is a pain in the ARSE!!! :bash:

Ive found some areas Id really like to hunt but between signing in the day prior by 2pm... going to the MP gate and physically signing in... the hunting... then going to physically sign back out... thats unnecessary!

All the bases in the south East use a automated phone call in. Quick and easy...you can log in by cell while driving to the area... you get a weekly email of open areas!

FT Lewis is way way behind the times and I dont hunt base because of it.

If you find some short cuts to the system please tell me.... It will open up a few thousand acres for me.

Theres some decent duck area if ya can deal with the check in system! :bash:

When I hunted Ft Lewis for deer, I only hunted the areas that were call-in areas. I wouldn't have done it if I had to drive all the way to the Ft.

Most of the duck areas we hunt are call in only.  Actually all the areas we hunt are.  I've never gone and signed in for duck hunting.  Just pheasant hunting.  That you sign up right at the release site.  I guess I'll ask again tomorrow about this, but I think you're wrong about having to go there in person.  At least I hope you are.

I must have lost track, last I heard you needed a military, or former military person with military ID to accompany you to hunt inside any part of the fort except East of the Roy hwy?? Has this changed?

Thanks
