GMgrill question
« on: December 03, 2017, 05:11:31 PM »
I took advantage of the $399 GMG black friday deal on the daniel boone. i just got done smoking a lamb shoulder, lamb chops and whole chicken. the temp was set at 175 for the first couple hours with mesquite pellets by bear mountain. all the food was great as far as doneness, but i could barely taste any smoke? this is my first pellet grill, but have been using mes 30 for the past 10 years.
Ive got to be doing something wrong? right now I'm pretty disapointed with the non-smoke flavor.

anyone got some pointers???
thanks

Pellet smokers will not give the smoke level your mes does. You can go at 150 degrees for awhile first, then bump the temp to finish, or go to an AMNPS to get more smoke. Others may agree or disagree. I have been smoking meats for 30 some years. Every smoker/grill has there advantages and disadvantages. I love my GMG for what it does. But I also have a WSM, weber grill, MB Propane, and a big offset stick burner. Hope this helps.

If you cooking with you GM grill and not smoking.....then you should by a wedgie to add smoke.  Pack the Wedgie with pellets and light it while you cook.  The higher the temp gets on your GM....the less smoke you will have.

Also....get a good pellet, it will help tremendously.  I buy and use lumberjack pellets exclusively.

I agree  :yeah:    the quality of pellets very important.  I only use lumberjack pellets they are 100% what they say they are NO alder filler or flavored oils.  The bear mnt are good pellets for the cost but don't use 100% in there product,  there pellets are all bleneed with up to 80 alder filler. On my GMG I use a  18 inch A-MAZE-N grill tube.  You fill it with pellets and wood chips light it with blow torch and it will smolder and smoke for 6-7 hours, it adds a lot more smoke to your cook.
Hope this helps

Thanks!
I’ll try some different pellets and look for the pellet tube.
