Bi-Pod Size?
« on: December 07, 2017, 09:55:43 AM »
The wife is looking for gift ideas for myself. I came up with a good Bi-Pod for my Browning Hells Canyon Speed in 6.5 Creedmoor.  I've never had a rifle with a Bi-Pod so my question is...What height is the best for a deer hunting rifle? I'm thinking I would be sitting or kneeling more than prone shooting but not positive. I haven't hunted with a rifle in 15+ years. What do you use?

Make sure it is a swivel bi-pod.  We use only Harris Bipods and the 25S is the one we use most.  It can be just a bit high for prone shooting, but is useable prone.  It goes high enough for sitting.  I think there is another model that goes an inch or so higher now.  I have had mine since 1990 and bought the same one for my daughter.  Chinese ones are a waste of money.

I am leaning toward the 13.5-27 Harris with the swivel base.

I find a prone only bipod almost worthless. Kneel or sit height is almost required.

 :yeah:

Prone works well at the range, but I almost always find myself in some type of grass or bush that prevents it.  In the rare instance I can go full prone, I can simply use a pack and get it done.  The majority of my bipod shots are from the sitting position.

Use a 9-13 but only for long shots.   Under 500 yards I just use a pack or steady sticks.  I use a magnetic carbon fiber bipod that I carry in my hip pocket  ( 4 oz)

I use the Harris 13.5-27 fixed. Works great. I've shot most of my deer using it from the knees or sitting. Anything shorter and I couldn't get above the grass or sage I'm usually in.

 :yeah:

I used to have a short one and never used it much. I think a pack is just as good if you’re prone.

Put a longer one on 3 deer ago and have used it on all three. Like anything else, screw around with it in real word situations so you get used to it. If you practice, it is quick to set up even on uneven ground.
