How do I pick waders?
« on: December 07, 2017, 12:20:44 PM »
I've always been a field duckhunter. I recently got invited to go duck this fall on some property on the local river. I went on cabelas to purchase a pair of chest waders and I'm kind of confused by the sizing chart. I wear a size 12 boot but I am a 6'1" fat boy with a 42" waist. can someone please show me the ways of the force and also recommend me a good brand that will keep me warm but not break the bank or leak 2 months later.

thanks
Alex

Size 12 stout should work for you.

I’m the same size you are. I got the cabelas super mags a few years ago. Really warm and still going strong. I’d recommend looking at them. They’ll be in he racks in cabelas try on a few different sizes to see what fits best. I got the same size boots as my everyday shoes and they work great

Size 11 or 12 stout should work.  Some waders with boot run big.  If you get heavy insulation like 1500 gram, the boot will run more true to size, so a size 12 would be needed.
Cut em!

Get the most grams of thinsulate you can try them on and make sure the boots are loose. You want to be able to wear one pair of good wool socks pulled up over your long Johns and wader pants and still have blood flow to your feet. Hang them up in the off season someplace clean and dry. My waders last me for years.

Do yourself a favor and buy whatever size boot wader then buy a pair of these. Wear with one pair of socks. Friends who have bought them thank me a lot.

Whoops here ya go lol

Do you put them on your feet first then put your waders on? What about taking them off? Do they get stuck in the boots? My feet get cold easy so I am up for trying anything

No you just put them on your feet first and then put them in your  waders or rubber boots. They are made for XTRATUFF boots, the ones that everyone wears in Alaska and on deadliest catch. That's where I learned about them. They draw moisture from your socks and the outside of the bama sock will be wet and the inside bone dry. Also helps take up a little more room in your boot so they aren't sloppy loose. My one buddy called me and asked if I had any more "life tricks" after he tried them

Since waders and rubber boots don't breathe these are a necessity especially walking and sweating in your waders
