New AR barrel help ( Gas length )
« on: December 07, 2017, 05:03:04 PM »
I'm tearing apart my AR for Cerakote and am thinking about getting a new barrel ( maybe dimpled or fluted ).  Right now I have a 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system , and an adjustable gas block , the rifle is shot 100% of the time suppressed.  Would I benifit going to a 16" barrel with a mid length gas system ?
What are some great shooting barrels that won't break the bank ?
 Thanks Allen

The majority of 5.56/.223's are over gassed to begin with. Mid length gas on a 16" is the way to go. I even run rifle length gas on 16" custom 6.5 Grendel barrel. It's all in the gas port size. If your running suppressed most of the time. It would be a good idea to install a adjustable gas block and just turn your gas down because of the back pressure caused by the suppressor.

AR Performance is doing some supper accurate 5.56/.223 barrels! I haven't had one that won't hover around 1/2 MOA with handloads. I have several ARP 6.8 SPC and Grendel barrels that shoot slightly over half inch with factory Hornady ammo.

I like ARP because he has barrels on hand and he ships promptly.

16" Rifle length gas. Runs like a champ!
