So yesterday sucked because it was carry over from Friday. Longest day of my life. Drive all night hunt all day and found an old cat track at 2pm. If it were fresh Dale Would have sent the dogs but he just couldn’t tell. Thought it was a good female or a smaller Tom. Anyways we were tired and decided to call it a day and try again today.

So today starts at 12am actually 1230am. Up and out of bed, out to the trucks and start driving roads looking for tracks. Not a single track at 9am so we head back to where we saw the old track the day before. Snow in that location is really melted off except the canyon the track was in. A quick loop all the way around the basin and one set of tracks in none coming out.
Release the hounds!

The guide actually walked the dogs sidehill above the track and they immediately so he turns them loose. Kenny actually walked the old tracks in and within 100 yards found a dead deer with fresh cat tracks going up hill.
Dogs were released at noon, cat was treed at 1225!
Now we had to get to it.
Toby hustled up the hill and Kenny Dale and I all followed. Daniel made it to the dogs first and got them tied up. 20 yards from the tree Toby could see it in the tree and it jumped out landing 20 feet from Toby.
He couldn’t get a shot but the dogs quickly treed it again. We all got to the tree and it was a good cat. Daniel got the dogs tied up again, Toby steadied for the shot and I video taped it on my phone.
One shot right behind the shoulder with the 7mm08 stood the cat up and it dropped. It grabbed a limb with its mouth and hung up a bit in the branches. I thought we were going to have to climb the tree. Luckily it fell to the ground.
It’s a great cat, really old female. Broken and missing teeth it’s so old.
