Pennsylvania First Buck
« on: December 08, 2017, 08:07:49 AM »
I went to Pennsylvania to hunt deer did not see much but some does on Monday then on Saturday I was out for an hour in the morning then I came back for 2 hour and and 11:30 my dad spotted buck then I put the cross hair on it then I pulled the trigger and he ran then then I shot hem again then he fell. I also got a grey squirrel on last day of season before deer opened.

Little fellow sure did good. He sat out with me all day opening day (Monday). We saw 15 doe, some up close! Did not want to travel by air with a rifle, so we picked up a Salvage Axis youth with a weaver scope chambered in .243 win once we got our feet on the ground. We zeroed it in with 100gr Federal Classic ammo, which the little rifle shot extremely well! The rifle will live at my Brothers, so he has a rifle back there for future hunts. We hunted a few evenings throughout the week, with sight seeing and family taking up a lot of time. My brother surprised us with Pittsburgh Penguin tickets for Saturday evening, which put a little pressure to get the boy a deer Saturday morning. We planned on hunting until 1pm, to give time to be ready to get to the game. God was good to us as the first live deer we saw was the half rack 2pt at 1130. The buck came in off to our left and behind, nose to the ground, and unaware of our presents. A lane to the vitals opened up through the woods with the buck at 40 yards. The .243 broke the silence of the crisp late morning air. The boy hit the buck hard on the first shot, square through the lungs a little behind the front shoulder. The buck stumbled down through the woods to a distance of about 70 yards, where he stood tail tucked. The boy quickly re positioned his shooting stix and rifle. I whispered if you can hit him again, go ahead. Bang! Down. My boy filled his first buck tag!! Grandpa, Mommy, Sissy, and Aunty all came up to be apart of this great moment. An Amish family close to my brothers butchers deer, and with the Penguins game looming we opted to have them process the buck for us.

We were south of Erie, Northern Crawford County. I sure love spending time back there. Butler is about an hour or so from where we hunted. How did your hunt go?
We love to listen to Mike Lange call games...he is the best.

I had a great time. Hunted from sun up to sun down for about 10 days, and grunted in about 20 bucks from anywhere between 1 yard to 15 yards, but 19 of them were young, and only 2 were legal. One was a small broken up 8 point, which wasn't what I wanted, and the other was a really big buck. He was smarter than the other ones, and went out of his way to circle down wind, and that was that. A gang of long beards came by, and they schooled me on how well they can see. I swear the lead bird actually seen my brain waves calculating  " yea, I'm going to shoot one". He calmly did a left flank, putted a couple times and walked away. The others followed behind him.
