That's what I'm doing wrong.  All I have to do is drive down town somehwere and the elk will actually come to me.   :)

From the Jackson Hole Daily:

A bull elk known to act aggressively toward vehicles and visitors during the fall in the Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone died recently in what officials are calling a freak accident.

The animal, dubbed “Number 6,” was found dead Sunday night in Gardiner, Mont.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks staff members believe the animal tripped while trying to cross a fence and somersaulted onto his back, where he was pinned between rocks with his antlers beneath him. He then suffocated.

Rest in peace Number 6.

I remember hunting Gardiner as a kid and when in town getting fuel/supplies watching elk walking down the streets, blocking traffic, and feeding on hay in the back of trucks at the gas station.
May the morning silence be broken with the wisp of vanes trailing blades to their mark.

I stayed at Mammoth Hot Spring on Sept of 2000 during the rut and it was AMAZING! Elk all over and at night you could hear the bulls bugling in all directions. I can vividly remember watching a nice 7X7 bugling outside my cabin for an hour before he scraped up the crass and bedded down under a street light. It was made perfect with the cigar I was smokin and the brandy I was sippin.
God Bless,
Scott
