6.5's are a fad.

They'll go the way of the pet rock and the lava lamp.

Definitely get the 7MM-08.

6.5 is not a fad. I love the 7mm-08 but the 6.5 has it by a hair or more in every way. I'm shooting a 143gr at 2750 fps with a 22 inch barrel. It is so tame and easy to shoot. I can put 40 rounds down range and not feel like I had the crap kicked out of me like a lot of other calibers.  And  the ballistics are out of this world.

I'm with highside, I avg 2720 with factory ammo from 22 barrel. Incredibly accurate and lighter recoil than a 7-08 IMO.

I was in the same dilemma a couple months ago...have a thread on here somewhere...went 6.5 and love it...that gun can flat out shot.

That being said I'm still going to buy a 7-08.... cause, well, why not.

@Jbar
@highside74

I just picked up 2 of the TC Compass rifles in 6.5 cm. Got one for me and one for the boy @MTBvenison
Can't beat a new rifle for $200 after rebate

Still looking at optics, but what factory ammo are you running? I plan to try a few types, but experience helps with my search.

Thanx,

I'm running the Hornady 143g ELDx, most consistent in speed and best groups out of all the factory ammo I tested. I'm not a reloader(yet) so I tested as much of the factory hunting options I could.

I bought 4 boxes of factory ammo to start with. I wasn't planning on using factory ammo but I wanted to know which load shot well in case I needed to buy off the shelf in a pinch.

Hornady Precision
Winchester Expedition
HSM
Browning BXR

HSM and Winchester Expedition shot the best with Hornady a close 3rd. Browning didn't impress me. HSM was quite a bit more so I would buy Winchester or Hornady again if I needed to.

My hand loads are 143gr ELDX with 42gr of RL-17 and they shoot great.

I was only teasing when I said the 6.5 is a fad.

Both are great chamberings.

Merry Christmas, one and all!!!!!

That's the same load I shoot. about 116 FPS faster than the same charge with H4350 and spooky accurate. Great bullet to boot!

As for the OP,  don't think there is a wrong answer.
