My buddy, whom I shoot with a lot and do some custom gun work with, has a 6.5 cm that he built off of a rem 700 action. I want to say it has a 28 or 30" Krieger custom barrel on it. He pushes 140 gr berger VLD's around 2900 fps and shoots 1/4 moa or better at 200 yards all day. It has very consistent hits at 1,000 yards with his load on 15" and 10" steel. Also some hits at a mile on a 15" steel plate. It has little to no recoil! Not saying you need that long of a barrel but the 6.5 cm is an amazing round and a TON of PRS shooters are using it or the 6 cm with really good results.

I am not sure that the small gains found with the 6.5 creed really outweigh the fact that it is generally a more expensive cartridge to find ammo and components for. Especially in the case of a hunt who will likely not shoot the rifle much in an average year. When it comes to 7mm-08, 6.5 creed, or even 308 I strongly believe it is more important to buy the rifle that fits you and has a high level of fit and finish than buying a rifle in one of those specific calibers. If you are a long range shooter, or you just want a new caliber to play with. Go for it, but don't buy it because someone or marketing says it is superior. The skill of the shooter and the quality of the rifle mean more for accuracy and precision than the marginal gains a new cartridge provides.

At average hunting shot distances, the animal taking the hit isn't going to know the difference. Shoot whatever floats your boat. I shoot what I want, I could careless what the next guy shoots.

That said, I have the 7mm-08 Savage 16 lightweight hunter, and I can't say enough about how great it is.  I've never owned a 6.5 and probably would love it just as much though.

I think OP was talking about hunting, not PRS. 

I will vote 65CM though, plenty for deer and a little less recoil.
