2 wolves shot NE Washington

The article makes no mention of the circumstances around the wolves being killed, opening it up for speculation.

Seems like a lot of questions could be asked before jumping to any conclusions:
How does WDFW even know the wolves were shot?
Were they collared?
Were they recovered? Autopsied?
Where were they found? Farm area? Forest?

According to state officials, the wolves were collared by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The collar on one of them had stopped working and wildlife officers checked the last known coordinate. They found the wolf shot dead.

Why do guys on here always think it's a " hunter " and it's going to give said hunters a black eye ? There are others who own guns and do thrill killings to MAKE the hunters look bad. Just sayin'......... They are not hunters in my eyes.

The vast majority of poaching is done by people who have had licenses in the past. Very rarely is it some dude with a gun and he's never had a hunting license.

Does it make hunters look bad? Absolutely! The public sees poaching as a direct result of "bad" hunters. And people on here can say well who cares about the general public, well when it makes the news, you better care about the general public.

I disagree. Most likely could of been a rancher protecting his livelihood or a wolf hater of some sort. Having a hunting license, to me, has nothing to do with it. The public only sees what the mainstream media lies about.

I suspect, someone has some polling that shows the tide is turning. This is their way of pushing back. But it's  just a guess on my part, but why else all the recent articles, of this nature. JMTCW

Heck for all we know they could have been killed in Idaho, and brought here. Look at what’s going on in our political arena these days with all the fake accusations.

I was struck by the term "Fair wolf plan" that the WDFW used in its statement. Fair to whom? That's the most ridiculous statement about the wolf plan I've heard to date.
I don't think we should justify poaching of any kind

I don't think wolves will ever be delisted, regardless of the care we take to protect them or how fast they multiply

I don't think anyone in the press is ever going to print what's really happening to the poor people, businesses, and ungulates of the NE corner.

Sitka Blacktail, why do you assume this has anything to do with hunters? I lived and worked around wolves for a few years and there are many excellent reasons to kill every one you see other than protecting deer, elk and moose. Most states had bounties on them when I was young because of the damage they do to the economic interests and safety of people and their property. These insane policies are made by arrogant urban liberals who have never logged, worked on ranches, mined or have done any other type of real work around these large predators that hunt in packs. The most aggravating aspect of it is that many of these people get there paychecks from the tax money taken from hard working Americans who are adversely affected by these policies.

Most states had bounties on wolves when you were young?  When you make a ridiculous statement like that it's hard to take you seriously. Unless you are 150 years old or more.

I didn't assume it was hunters. I said it will make hunters look bad. Because the public will assume it was hunters.  And "hunters" are on this site saying,  "Kill more!"  "SSS" or some such drivel. That makes hunters look guilty too. Even if hunters didn't make the kill, those kinds of statements say hunters approve of this kind of poaching.

And when the public perceives hunters of approving or participating in breaking the law, we lose what little influence we have and lose non hunters who don't mind us hunting.

If you don't understand that, we are already lost.

Yah, a wolf that was collared here was shot in Idaho and dumped back here to create chaos with wolf recovery in Washington..............   Do you know how ignorant that sounds?
