Idaho Archery Pronghorns

I’m planning a trip next year to idaho and am open to pretty much any info anyone can give me. What were your experiences hunting the unlimited areas? Which ones were the best?

A buddy of mine was successful down there for the archery pronghorn. The tactics are pretty simple, find water sources and set up a blind before someone else does. The competition is somewhat high as water sources are known to a few people. Most likely you will be trying to beat other hunters to the water sources. Your blind cannot be set up before season, so I hear guys go in at midnight of the opener to get to places first. I believe he had the 21a tag. I had it this year as well but didn't make it down. I think they are all good tags, just grab a map and get a handful of places you think a blind would be good and give it hell.

That’s kind of the vibe I’m getting...they’re everywhere in the unlimited areas. I know it’s tough but planning spot and stalk hunting. Don’t care about size, just want to see if I can get one with my mission.

I think you will be fine. It's a big area and the numbers are good. Get a decoy as well.

The most challenging animal to spot and stalk. But one of the most rewarding as well. Good luck

some of the unlimited areas are better stalking than others. you don't have to sit in blinds (I don't) was 60 yards three separate times on the same stalk from a P&Y buck this year but no shot. its a lot of fun but don't plan on filling the tag, plan on hunting it.

I admire guys who spot and stalk antelope with a bow. Those things are crazy hard to sneak up on between their eyesight, shy nature and the landscape.

I did the sit in the blind on a waterhole thing for a day it sucks! Hot and boring but we got one antelope from the blind that day. WE could have shot another small one but passed on it We went spot and stalk after that and never got another antelope but got close and had a lot more fun. Where I went it was unlimited archery area but I don't recall the unit. The antelope population is not very high not even close to what you would see in Montana not to even mention Wyoming. Thats been my experience on a few of the Idaho antelope units just not a lot of goats compared to other states. Maybe there are better units? I go back to Montana if I hunt antelope now so not an expert on Idaho antelope.

That looks like a nice antelope I could not get the video to play? I think most antelope are killed archery in Idaho by sitting in a blind. I just did not want it to seem like my last post was suggesting that's not the absolute best way to fill a tag. If I really wanted to just get an antelope with my bow I would sit on water in southern Idaho. My point was I personally did not enjoy it that much so for me the spot and stalk was just more enjoyable. my hunting partner got an antelope out of the blind and I did not get one and I think that's how it goes most of the time!

I hate it, unless its duck hunting. I have never had the patience to sit for long. That video was an unlimited antelope hunt from this year so it gives you an idea of what the area is like.
