Last chukar hunt this year

Well... do to the Christmas season I won’t be able to get back out until after the new year. Great day chasing those red legged devils with my favorite hunting partners.

Low 30's which made for a comfy hunt but a cold boat ride back.
Lead em if they're running.

Are you running up the snake and hunting the canyons and breaks up along shore? I’ve always wanted to do this but never got it arranged? Feel free to  pm or just keep your lips shut if you don’t want to share your secret. Good job on getting some youth out there! Can’t wait until mine can handle that kind of hiking.

Oh I don't mind sharing. We hunt off of the Columbia same idea though. There are a ton of draws and it is downright beautiful country. The Chukar are at all elevations but we really get into them when we get some elevation. The best thing about it for me is watching my sons and nephew push themselves, my youngest boy told me last weekend that he didn't want to climb the hill at the beginning of the day "but now that we are up here dad, I am so glad that I did it." His exact words....

I remember my first Chukar hunt around 35 years ago at close to the same age as those boys.  I thought the same thing looking at the first mountain we started to climb.  20 empty shells, an empty game bag and tired legs I was hooked.  Great job getting them out and building them into Red-leg shooters.  I would assume you might have even seen a nice Buck and/or an Elk on you walk-a-bout?

You know we rarely see bucks, every once in a while. Pretty regularly see elk though. We also find some of the coolest rocks. My son picks em up and puts them in my pack, I have to limit him so that my pack is not too heavy. He is always tumbling them.
Lead em if they're running.

Very cool!  Can't wait until my boys get a bit older to take them out.
