Said Goodbye Sooner Than Intended
«
on:
December 11, 2017, 01:05:30 PM »
My season ended a bit sooner than intended. I hunted my 10-year old pointer on Saturday and he hunted like a machine. When we got back home after hunting I noticed that he seemed a bit "out of it" and would not eat. Took him to the emergency vet and he was suffering from hypoglycemia that caused his temperature to drop significantly. The vet thought that since we got him there before he began experiencing seizures that he would recover, but unfortunately we lost him that night. I find some comfort knowing that he went out doing what he loved to do. It was almost like he saved his best show for last. A few pictures from our season are attached.

That's terrible! I didn't know a dog could suffer from hypoglycemia.

Sorry to hear this. I lost one several years ago in one day. I still miss her. You will too! But every time you hunt, you will remember, They are never really gone!

Very sorry for your loss. So hard loosing such good buddies that they are. I think you are absolutely right that he went out the best way possible. Can't argue that passing away after a day of doing what you love with the ones you love is about the best you can ask.
May your grieving process be healthy.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your buddy. I am sure he was as grateful as you were to share your time together. Just know that he will be waiting for you in heaven with that tail a wagging.

Been there done that with the hypoglycemia on a pointer, mine would seizure though, he became unhuntable at age 7. Curious to know if your dog was Elhew type pointer, mine was a grandson of Elhew upland gilly,he by Elhew Blue Nose by Elhew Snakefoot. Sorry for the loss ,but as you suggest he went out doing what he loved, safe to say you didn't get cheated any lots of pointers don't make 9.

When you have a really great bird dog it’s a shame we have to out live them. I hope when it’s my time to go get to out during or shortly after a great hunt. So sorry for your loss.
