Magpul hunter stock

Interested in a stock upgrade on a rifle I have. I'm wondering if anyone has experience or input on the Magpul Hunter stocks for a short action Remington 700?

Good stock for the money. Depending on what you are using it for it is on the heavier side.   Bullblaster and jonathonS have them on their short actions and they both like them.  Nice having the options for higher cheek comb if needed.

SOlid and good feeling stock with lots of adjustability. Downside is as coop said it’s heavy (3lb) not a ton more than hs or bc stocks. And you have to buy all the accessories for it (sling mounts, bipod mounts, other cheek pieces if you need, etc but the fore end has m lok so it’s easy to change things around. It has been plenty durable for me also.

jackelope, not sure how you feel about wood laminate stocks but if it's something you'd consider I'd maybe take a look at the Boyd's AT-ONE stock.  Just put one on a gun for my dad.

I was looking at them too but the one I held felt pretty heavy.  However I don't think the weight is a deal breaker.  Depending on the gun/use.

If you are looking for a stock I would consider Grayboe. I bought one and love it. The owner of the company is the son of the owner of McMillan's. He uses  very simular designs.

I’ve been thinking about one of their pro Varmint stocks.

I have a couple Boyd's Pro Varmint stocks on rimfires and if you like the feel of a McM A5, then you'll like the Pro Varmint because it's essentially a exact copy of it.

For those who have shot Olympic-Style smallbore and air rifle, this stock makes all the sense in the world.  I have kicked around the idea of buying one myself.  German-made Anschutz, Feinwerkbau and Walther Olympic Style Rifles all have buttplates and cheekpieces that adjust up and down depending on the size of the shooter and the shooting style. 
For shooting prone, move the buttplate to the highest position (slide it straight up), and move the cheekpiece low.  If you shoot a higher position (like kneeling, or off a bipod while sitting), move the buttplate lower and the cheekpiece higher.  If you shoot offhand (which hardly anyone ever does, except in competition), lower the buttplate all the way to the lowest position and raise the cheekpiece high.
The idea is that you will be most accurate when your head is held level and you are looking "straight out of your eye sockets", because when your head is level, the balance device inside your inner ear (like a carpenter's level) is held level and your balance is most accurate.  When your cheekpiece and buttplate are the correct height, and you apply the proper cheek pressure, you should be looking straight at the rear of your scope.

Don't own one but have shot rifles with them.  ONLY complaint I can see is the weight. For a range gun or if you aren't doing any serious hiking  (or are tougher than me )  they are a solid option at an affordable price

Really the big reason I like the adjustable stocks is because I’m 6’4” and most stocks are too short for me. Eye relief with my scopes is always not quite right and I figure maybe I can fix that with adjustability.  The Pro Varmint stocks are .75# lighter than the Magpul and the B&C stocks but the laminate stock is slowing me down. I don’t want to spend the money on a McM on this rifle so that’s out. Basically looking for a budget based improvement over a plastic Tupperware Rem stock.

If you were closer I’d pull mine off and loan it to ya jackelope. I actually really like the stock but will be selling it sometime this next year when my manners comes in. I believe (but may be wrong) that the hunter 700 stock has the same grip angle as ar15 rifles.

Good info. Thanks to both of you. Unknown to me, a friend just texted and said his dad can get a deal on a magpul so I told him to get me one. If I don’t like it I can always sell it. Still keeping options open but sounds like I’ll be at least trying the magpul.

Jakelope, I'm gonna be the guy that's gonna say it. You shudda bought an MDT LSS CHASSIS or a KILLER INNOVATIONS ORIAS CHASSIS for your 700..both use drop AICS drop mags..... I have 2 MDT's and 1 Orias chassis myself...

I have a 6 round and 10 round magazine for mine. Both had to sand the feed lips down a bit because they were riding the bolt. Other than that it’s a pretty cool setup.

Rifle installed in stock. It’s a 700 VTR in .308. It gained 1.1 pounds in the Magpul.  I think I like it. Have to swap some scopes around and go shoot it obviously but it feels good.  Also added the mag box conversion to it.

Negative. I got the mag stuff Thursday and just put it together last night.  To be totally honest I don’t even own a single round of 308 ammo yet. Picked up this rifle a couple months ago on a “can’t walk away from it” type deal.

Lol, I wish it was only 13#. I think it was #26 with optic and I do pack it quite a lot especially elk hunting in Washington. Now I carry it and a climbing tree stand, but I live in a much flatter area.

First off I wanna say rifle looks pretty sweet,and was kinda wishing I went with that when I did my stock on my 700.

I went this route ,cheap,lite,looks alright,comes with recoil pad or you can mount your butt plate off 700,manufacturing by remington.
