You get what you pay for. The nice thing is nowadays you can get a reliable scope for very little money. You do need to go with the lower end magnification though. 4-12 would be about max, while the old standby, the 3-9 is probably the most bang for the buck that you'll ever get. A Leupold VX1, Burris Fullfield 2, or Redfield Revolution can all be had for less than $200.

No kidding! I just checked Bushnell's website, don't fall for this game like I did... "Banner Dusk and Dawn 6-24x40 - 100% Waterproof Fogproof and SHOCKPROOF!" Again Buyer Beware!

Well I paid for a "100% Waterproof, Fogproof, and Shockproof" scope, as described on the Bushnell factory website. As did at least 119 other individuals (one online seller of this scope) that have trusted the Bushnell name. Again - Buyer Beware, and I hope that my case was just an isolated one.

When I saw the thread I thought back to the mid nineties when I put a Bushnell on my mini 14. Exact problem the OP had. See things haven't changed.

Guess us common folk just have to settle nowadays and leave the multi-thousand dollar, high-power, quality scopes to the rich!  ;)

Don’t think anyone’s saying that.  I would say, and I don’t want to sound like a jerk, that if you buy a cheap scope and put it on a heavy recoiling rifle, it’s probably not going to last. I broke the reticle on a Vortex diamondback scope I had mounted on a .300 win mag. I sent it back and they fixed it, and I put it on a 10/22 when I got it back. I then saved my pennies and bought a higher quality scope that ran me about $375 All in. Nothing high class about  that. With that said you could get that scope fixed, put it back on your rifle and never have a problem again. Maybe you just got a dud. I have a brand new $75k pickup truck in my shop right now with 3k miles on it and the transfer case is grenaded. Why? Because it happens sometimes. That’s what warranties are for.

Very true.

Honestly I knew I was taking a gamble in terms of likely lower image quality, cheaper finish, etc. Again, as I mentioned in the OP, however,  the scope (externally anyway) is the exact same design as the vintage, tried-and-true, Bausch & Lomb Elite 6-24x40. With this in mind I never thought that it would just completely let loose like it did.

PS aren't terms like fog-PROOF and shock-PROOF akin to a legal statement, meaning fog and shock damage will NEVER happen under reasonable use? Just seems like these issues HAVE happened with too many other customers for Bushnell to continue to make these statements in good faith.

I don't think banner themselves have that shock proof on this item. Who you bought it from might have it on their sale post but i don't think Banner does.

:dunno:  im wrong they do.

It appears that this is a case of a descent scope bought manufactured by the lesser co. in korea.some of these very scopes are built in Japan still where the co. was founded with German glass.

To the op. who did you buy this scope from?

Yep-  I saw your pumping iron/hands-up man; was just agreeing with ya and confirming again with the screenshot that the scope is advertised by Bushnell as "100% shockproof.
