Muzzy success!
« on: December 17, 2017, 01:04:34 PM »
I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along on a buddies eastside quality bull hunt this last fall. he finally sent me some pictures and gave me the ok to post. opening morning we called in a nice 6x6 but he had a certain bull in mind and decided to pass. after a long day of searching for that bull dark was starting to set in when we heard a distant bugle. We closed the distance quickly to around 150 yards and my buddy started to climb elevation as his brother and I hung back and kept the bull talking. He didn't get 40 yards from us and in comes a raghorn six point to about 20 yards from the hunter. My buddy decided to keep moving toward the bull that was sounding off near the top of the hill and the raghorn just couldn't leave us as we were cow calling. we were mixing in cow calls with bugles and the bull at the top of the hill would only respond to bugles and by the aggresivness of his bugles he didn't like us being that close to him. this proved to be a great learning experience cause he was the herd bull and could care less about us cow calling cause he already had his girls. as we were still talking to the bull and the hunter was closing in on him to our left a bull came flying into 30 yards and ripped out a loud bark which kicked out the raghorn. The new bull was a 320" 6x6 that wouldn't bugle and was trying figure us out as we were talking quite a bit. after a couple minutes of the new bull trying to figure us out I forgot that I hadn't bugled in a few minutes and I let off a bugle which was instantly answered followed by a muzzleloader shot! With the bull that had rushed into us still hanging around we took off up to the hunter and before we could reach him another shot rang out which was the kill shot. The excitement of not knowing what was on the ground was uncontainable, we ran up to the hunter who was standing over a great 6x6. we snapped a few pictures before last light faded and the work began. For me breaking down a animal in the woods is almost as fun as the hunt. It wasn't the bull the hunter was after but it is a really heavy 6x6 and he was pumped.

Other than the harvesting of my own branched bull, this was by far the coolest elk hunt I’ve been on. 4 6x6 bulls called in in one day!
