My experience matches KFhunter's and there is not much to add.  Great advice. I was busted twice last year and twice the year before that I know of.  As stated, they hunt with their eyes and will sit and watch for the slightest movement. According to a game agent I spoke with, the SE GMU's have hit the quota as of weeks ago.  Get out and give it a try......as stated by others.....it is very exciting to see one come in to a call or find the tracks where one has sat down near your calling set.  To trick a major predator on his own turf is an accomplishment.
It never changes, but it is always different.

We're hitting the 101 next week. Should be good, there's supposed to be lots of fresh snow.

I was hoping to hit 328 second week of January.....hope it's still open.

Yeah, we've been keeping an eye on the weather. Our cabin is at 3100 feet, it's looks like it's going to be bitterly cold, close to 0. Burr!

I found where a cougar has been hanging out the last few weeks. Just need to be in the right place at the right time. Back at it on Friday.

Didn't make it up yesterday and only had an hour before dark today. Fresh tracks all over the road.  :IBCOOL. I'll be up there tomorrow and a Christmas doing some more scouting and coming up with a game plan.

Hopefully @rainshadow1 has time to go up with me next week to show him the area before the season closes.

The place I was hoping to hit this winter took out 5 within five miles of their properties last winter... should have been there then, I guess.

I killed a cougar this summer while it was going after livestock on our property(had to turn the cat in as it was out of season) and then we had another cougar come back and kill 4 sheep and a llama all in one night during October. I plan to put a call out a few times on our property this winter and see if that one isn't still lurking around.

They're sneaky buggers, that's for sure.

Lost a fresh track today at the cliff. Wasn't any back tracking by the cat and scanned 180°.

Back at it tomorrow. Same area. The fresh snow falling will help immensely.

Well hopefully that's the last time I leave a bolt to a gun sitting on the bench. I would of had a dead kitty otherwise. Heard it as soon as I got out of the truck.

Tracks heading down the road and up to where they were at.
