Having a heck of a time calling Yotes, L.T. Murray

Hello fellow predator hunters,
long time lurker, first time caller. I am not a long time WA resident and live in the dreaded Pierce County area. A few friends and I have been going to LT Murray, been high and low with zero success. We do see some tracks, poop etc. Hoping some more experienced users can suggest a better location? We use a fox pro, which calls in many birds during our 25-40 minute stints. I know that place is hunted a lot and likely harder to call them in. Is there anything South of Olympia or near Murray that is hotter?

Large tracts of public like the LT tend to get hammered pretty hard by yote hunters and the dogs get call shy. Also lots of guys drinking beer and shining all night etc. Try finding some smaller pieces of public that get overlooked where you might be able to pull some less educated dogs off of private. Also the calling is hit and miss right now, no snow on the ground so the dogs aren't as hungry/willing to come to a call. Wait for a good snow where its on the ground for a couple weeks then head further east and hit it hard, get as many sets in as possible is my

Get away from Lt murry. Get away from the road, walk out to where no one goes.Make sure your cam works good and don't move around. Be very still. Put your nose in the wind, but keep an eye out behind you too or better use a backstop. I call way more dogs with a hand call than the fox pro. ( that's just my experience)

I'd cut your stand time to 20-30min and try to fit in a few more in a day, cover as much ground as possible. Vary your sounds too,don't just use rabbit distress or the most popular sounds, they have likely heard the common stuff before..keep at it, some days they just won't react. The next time they might come in on a sprint. God luck, hope it turns around.

I *think* what he means is the coyotes are educated to the standard fox pro calls everyone uses, so he has better luck with standard mouth calls.

I'm going back to hand call too ,and saving the Fox pro for night hunts,i called in way more yotes with hand call then,I did with the FoxPro I got last winter.

Awesome fellas. In process of looking for a better spot, going to try placing an ad as wel going to get a few calls from Rick and learn how to be effective, haven't used a mouth call in a long while. Amazing that so many yotes are in the state and you can't find them

Foxpro is a great tool if you know how to use it.  I have hand calls also.  I would definitely recommend buying a howler and learn the coyotes language. I howl in 80% of my yotes

ok, let me play the devil's advocate here.
Eat a lot of GMO food,  let it mess up your digestive track,  then go out and pass a lot of gas while laying on the ground pretending to be dead  . Have your buddy pull your finger if it helps to release the gas (it works in real life sometimes). 
It might draw them in if they think you are dead.
Or just do the opposite and be clean without any odor and make some really good distress calls in areas where no GMO eater has been lately and you just might score!
And then show us the pictures and tell us how you succeeded.

Lots of good points and also lots of dogs in the LT.  My key to success has always been boot leather.  Many treat coyote hunting as a casual event.  Park here, walk over ditch and call, then repeat.  Those dogs get killed or educated.  I leave my truck in the a.m. and won't see it till dark.  Not uncommon to do 8,10, 12 or more miles in a day.  Has always produced more times then not.  I do 20 min sets tops unless I have a visual on a stubborn dog then I may sit longer and work.  All hand calls.  Good luck out there, as has been said before this is a tough time of year to get em.

Amen to that. Except, one time in the '70s, the reason I didn't return to my truck till dark is because I just couldn't find it.

All seriousness, appreciate the info. What is the best time for yotes here in WA? Thinking I may try JBLM, once the highway get open again. Its crazy around here. Thought traffic was bad before..
