Replacing Trigger difficulty?

How difficult is it to replace the trigger on a rifle? I'd like to soften the trigger on my 7mm-08 Mountain Rifle. It's so stiff for such a light weight firearm that I think it will help me a lot. I've never tinkered with this before though and want to gauge the difficulty of the project. Also, any recommendations on triggers would be appreciated.

what brand/action?  Most of them are pretty easy.   Jewell and Timney are the two most popular upgrades but yours can probably be softened up without a replacement.

It's a Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08. It was part of the recall from a few years back, but I'd like to swap out for a different trigger than what they're offering to replace it with.

best to set the trigger where you want on a cold rifle     It's a mountain rifle!  So I'd keep a pretty decent pull on it, no need for a 2.5 or 3lb trigger on a mountain rifle you're going to be going through the brush, banging around on rocks and whatnot.  I like a light trigger, I learned on a hair trigger sniper rifle, but in the brush and snow I prefer a little more trigger pull.

The gun weighs about 6 pounds on its own, so I'm feeling like the lighter trigger pull will help somewhat. Am I that far off base?

I put a Timney in my Model 70. It was so simple I was almost disappointed. I was expecting a bigger project to spend the morning on, but it took 15-20 minutes.

Took me a solid 16 minutes to swap out the trigger on my Rem 700. I put a Timney in.

You are on target ! ( hehe )   I run 1.5# but I think you will be happy with 2.5#

I can't shoot anything with a 3.5# trigger rifle.  Some can.

I don't know what my Ruger has, but it is stiff. It is also a much heavier rifle and I've learned to shoot it very well. The Remington has always been a bit of a problem for me though. I shot a guys rifle last year that had a 2# trigger and it was night and day difference. Really got me thinking about it.

Tikka free zone here, man. Currently anyway. Wouldn’t mind a super lite one of these days. Waiting for my model 7 to make its way home here soon now. Maybe I can make that a super lite instead.
