Scope Mounting help.. seeing the barrel through my scope
«

This is strange and I for some reason I can not figure it out.. So I could use some help from the board...
So I bought a 30mm Nikon Monarch X scope.. Love it.. awesome clarity, etc.
However, when I look down the scope I can actually see the barrel a bit down at the bottom. This is bizare to me!
I have a pretty standard set up, 30mm rings and bases from Leupold. I took the scope off and looked through it just to make sure its not the scope and everything is clear.. but when mounted, I can see the top of the barrel at the bottom still. Bases seem perfectly level, etc.
I feel pretty dumb here for asking this but anybody got any idea?

Nevermind.. just figured it out.. I have never had a 2.5x power scope start before.. opens up the field of view.

you can see it at 2.5?
I've seen it on the 1.5's and smaller but i guess i dont recall seeing the barrel through a 2.5.

yeah i am sure that is the case with the longer barrel and biger tube for sure. i have had that happen with a few guns over the years with the lower fixed powerd scope and like 1.5-2.5 like you are using. should not be a prob for you or effect you as long as it is not blockin the cross hairs and just in the bottom of the scope. can be a bit distractin but not bad from what i have seen and shot.

guy at the sworovski counter at a gun show over here said that the human eye cannot distinguish the light transmission difference between 30mm and one inch tubes. if you think about it, it wont really give you a wider view eithere

Well, that is probably true. But if that were the case, why does Swaro, Zeiss and Leica pretty much only offer 30mm tubes? I have 1" tubes on the rest of my scopes however and the real interest for having a 30mm scope tube for me is the amount of light.. in this case, I can get a 40+mm scope with a 30mm tube and get just about the same light gathering ability as a 50mm scope tube.. which as a trade off, are more combersome to carry in the field.

its all about making the sale. if they say it's the best who's going to argue. now they have the 34mm tube? pretty soon it will be a 56mm tube front to back.
