Angled versus Straight Spotting Scope help

I ordered myself a spotting scope for a little Christmas present (thank goodness for Cabelas CC points), it will be here tomorrow.

My thought process was.... angled is good for on a tripod out in the woods (where I plan to use 75%+ or the time) but not good if I use as a truck window mount.  I am not sure how an angle scope would work from a window.  I ordered the straight version.

After I ordered I was having second thoughts....  maybe the angled is better?  Any thoughts on best one?  Pros and cons?

I should be able to exchange it if required.

Sorry man, With angled you can scan 180 degrees out window. Try that with a straight !

My angled lets me swivel it to any angle I want, so as the previous post said, it lets you adjust it how you want.  Not an option on straight.  I am guessing this is not the case with all angled.  My tripod mount is on a band that goes around the scope.  Loosen the set screw, swivel it the angle you want, and tighten back down.

I recently had this same dilemma. I ended up going with the angled for the reason stated above. On mine  (Vortex Razor) you can loosen the band and roll the entire thing on its side or whatever position is needed for viewing.

I prefer straight eye pieces for hunting and angled for target shooting.

I used straight for 30 years and then hesitantly bought an angled. I will never own a straight again. The pros out weigh the cons IMHO

Recently bought a spotter myself.  I was pretty convinced on a straight, but bought an angled, and I'm glad I did.  At the shooting range I'll rotate it for easier target viewing. Truck usage, well I thought this was something I wanted a spotter for, but I still use my binos as they are quicker and easier.  Long range shooting our targets are all uphill so the angled is easier.  Hunting I could probably go either way, I glass uphill about as much as downhill so no benefit one way or another.  I thought the straight would fit better in my pack, but the angled fits just fine.  Another benefit of the angled that I've found is that since I'm tall I can get away with my tripod set a bit shorter (more stable) then if I had straight scope.  My vote would be angled.

Thanks for everyone's input and link to past discussions.   I received the STS today but haven't opened it. ( it's killing me ).   My plan is to go to cabelas in the morning and try them both out.  If I like the ATS better I will exchange it.   If not, I will be cracking the box open when I get home!!  Thanks again!

I loosen the swivel lock and rotate the scope barrel to the left to see extreme left and similar to the right.  This avoids having to move tripod and reposition to see hard left or right like you would with a straight.  give that a try.   It does take a lil more practice to get on a spot with the angle but fine once used to it.
