ProMaster Xc525c Carbon Tripod for use with big spotter?
« on: January 10, 2018, 08:54:51 AM »
Has anyone tried the ProMaster Xc525c carbon fiber tripod with a large spotter? I have the 88mm Kowa and wondering how stable it would be with a tripod this small and easy to pack around.  Thanks

It'll work just fine. I'd be more worried about the head. I used a razor 85 on mine no problem. I use a vanguard PH-111v head. Haven't tried it with the factory head.

Reidus, I've got a Manfroto head for it that I like so hopefully that won't be a problem but my main concern was how rigid the set up will be with the big scope. (in the wind for instance) I've got a small Slik aluminum tripod and it is not very rigid. The big scope moves quite a bit on it while trying to focus etc. Does the carbon fiber make that much difference?

the xc525c is a pretty solid tripod. I don't think you'll have any problem with the 88 kowa on it. If its really windy it can be hard to be steady but they have a hook on the bottom to hang a bag of rocks to steady it up. If you're looking for something to pack all over i wouldn't go any bigger. If you're not packing it around much a little heavier one would be more ideal. Carbon is a little lighter and maybe more rigid.

call s and s archery....they test a lot of this stuff and are super knowledgeable. Decent prices too.

I have a bigger Brunton carbon tripod and I hardly use it. Mostly use the promaster.

I just purchased one a couple weeks ago and while I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test it i do have some feedback. I also have a Vortex SS-P. The Promaster is definitely more sturdy than the SS-P. It still has its share of vibration issues when fully extended but is pretty solid when used from a sitting position. It's packable but I wouldn't want to pack anything larger. It's not really heavy, just kind of bulky. At least compared to the Vortex SS-P. Anyway, it is a good compromise between weight, packability, and sturdiness. If I wasn't needing to pack it at all I'd look for something more solid. I have a Vortex 85mm for reference. I have that tripod & have beat the tar out of it. My spotter is just a 65mm Razor, but handles with no issues. I use the outdoorsman head.
