I had a chocolate that lost her front leg/shoulder at 5 years old.  She hunted til she was 12 and never missed a beat.  She almost always out swam my partners dog on long retreives.  She was an amazing dog.  You have many years left with him.  Don't think he can't do anything...they can.

Boy I'll tell you what there is nothing on God's green earth better than a duck dog. Give that boy some belly rubs from me and tell him he is a beast!
