Keegan Wilder fundraiser Auction #10 Custom Wazukie knife
« on: January 04, 2018, 07:26:44 AM »
We are rolling out auction #10 for Keegan.  Keep on pulling together for this kid and his family and let's do what we can to lighten their load a little. All of you have done an amazing job of helping these folks through a tough time.

If you haven't heard Keegan's story, here is a bit of background from Karl Blanchard

"Keegan Wilder is not your typical 7th grader.  He's a hardened mountain mule deer hunter.  Though he's a little small in stature,  he has the heart of a lion and is just as fierce!  He had been feeling a faint pain for a few months but nothing that would have caused concern.  Almost felt like a pulled muscle.  He asked to be taken into the urgent care because he was having a hard time breathing without any pain.  He was immediately referred to Seattle Children's where the family was given the devasting news after several blood tests, xray, and ultrasounds that he indeed had cancer.  The mass is quite large behind his rib cage growing towards his lung.  He had surgery within one day where they biopsied the mass to determine the exact kind of cancer (so they know what appropriate treatment to provide for that type of cancer) and also placed a port for his chemotherapy.

He recently had to have his port moved which involved a second surgery.  He is having a difficult time keeping weight on so a feeding tube has been placed to help him get the calories he needs.

Keegan is the toughest kid you will ever meet.  From the age of 5 he has been chasing his dad and I into some of the toughest mule deer country the west has to offer.  His first deer at age 10 was over 7 miles into the Idaho backcountry.  Even though he is on round 5 of chemo and very weak, he is always smiling.

Keegan and family still have a tough road ahead of them and can use our support.  Life can be so cruel and no child should ever have to go through what Keegan has.  Let's help make this dark time a little brighter."

Our member JKEEN33 has donated a custom knife made by our member Wazukie. This thing is cool. Here's a few pics of it. I'll see if I can get some details on it's construction, etc.

Bidding will start now and run till Friday 1/5/18 at noon. Winning bidder will be ID'd by the time stamp.
Payment will be made to Karl Blanchard either via paypal or a check mailed to him.

Happy bidding.

I don’t recall all of the build details, hopefully Wazukie will add those. I bought this a few years back from one of his posts. It never made it to the intended recipient so it’s going to a good cause. It is new and razor sharp. I will not be responsible for lost fingers. :)

Thanks for bidding. I’ll cover shipping to wherever it needs to go.

From Wazukie:

The knife is made from 1/8" 1095HC steel.  Handle material is black and red Dymond wood which is a laminated wood product.  Total length is about 6" with a 2.75 cutting edge.  Sheath is all hand cut, hand stitched and wet formed for retention.  It is made from premium grade 7 -8 ounce hermann Oak leather.  The lanyard hole is actually made from a 22 mag casing.

Josh - I have been away during much of the auctions, and have been thinking of something I could provide.  This popped up on my recent unread post.  I don't know if this would be of use to you since it would be mailing things back and forth, but I will offer you lifetime sharpening for this knife and any others that might come up in the future or have already been auctioned off.  In fact for you, and because of all you do for the board, I will sharpen any knives you send me to a razor's edge.  So if you send me 10-100 I will take care of you.  I will hopefully have something better to offer up shortly as a standalone auction.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

I'll pm my contact info!  With my set-up it isn't as nearly generous as it sounds.  The worst blade takes about 5 minutes and normal wear takes 2-3.
