night hunting on the west side
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:17:13 PM »
I'm looking into getting into night hunting on the west side. By west, I mean on the coast. Just brush and trees. Just curious on what lights are reccomended. I'm thinking red, but is there any specific brand reccomended. Also, any tips for this? I have a foxpro and I'm thinking about possibly getting some new sounds for it. Should I be hand calling? I'm a little curious on setting up too. light placement? In the trees? In the cuts? Should I use as little artificial light as possible hiking in or does the light not really make a difference? I've had some success in the daylight but think it would be more productive at night.
thanks in advance

Added benefit: at night you can sneak into all the pay for play areas as well down there in Grays Harbor!  Just kidding.

Interesting topic, I think the traditionalist would say hand calling is the better option.

Red light.  Set up where you can see.  Y's in logging road networks, on the edge of cuts.

I like my wicked lights scanpro but this little homemade guy is much cheaper and pretty darn great!

Seems like a pretty cool light. I'll probably order one tonight. Ive been hearing a lot about staying with hand calls lately. I have a couple that I like but I've also called a few yotes in with the fox pro. I'm mainly interested in night hunting because I'd like a bobcat and I have a few areas where I've seen a lot. Haven't killed one yet though. Plenty of coyotes to go around too

For bobcats I’d wanna stick with the Foxpro and a decoy. They’ll see all your little movements if using solely mouth calls. A lotta guys do it but the foxpro would be a big help IMO. Bird sounds and keep em continous, a 2 minute pause and the cat might be wondering away distracted by a shiny who knows what.
