I hear ya on that.  But 12# is a beast to pack, and if not  packing it  wouldn’t a 16# be even better?

Probably less recoil than my standard 300 wby mag due to the smaller pill being pushed. yes you are getting more velocity but with that smaller lighter bullet recoil probably isn't as bad. I really want to shoot a 6.5-300 wby and see if there is a difference. Before my 300 wby got a muzzle break.. it kind of hurt to put 20 rounds of 200 gr barnes tsx with 80 gr of rl22 down range. Now with the break I can comfortable shoot it all day.. and its not a 12 lbs gun lol. My only issue with running the 6.5-300 wby though is how fast it will burn that barrel out! The 300 wby already burns through a barrel relatively quick compared to a lot of other rounds but I do love mine very much! the 6.5 cm I see sticking around though. It has pulled too much of a following to go away. Even if it did magically fall short for the hunting crowd the long range competitive shooting scene LOVES the round! Between the 6.5 creedmoor, 6 creedmoor, 6.5x47 lapua, and 6x47 lapua there isn't much competition in the PRS matches anymore caliber wise. The .308 they have deemed has too much recoil and most .308 bullets don't have as high of BC as the 6.5 bullets do. There are a few but they are few and far between.

most can lose 5-10#'s around the waist before hunting season..then the extra rifle weight is a wash👍right? Lol!

I have one of each and the 7-08 gets a slight nod, but has more recoil and takes up more mag length. However, I have a ladder test loaded up in the 7-08 with 162eldx and so far they fit just fine in my ASC mags at about 2.82. If I can get em to fly and cycle right it may become my go to rifle. The load looks good on paper anyway

Nothing like rifles far gone and from the past. Hornady has it dialed in and a huge support base. Supper accurate affordable factory ammo. The 7mm-08 has been around for a long time! I have a Remington 700 Classic in the safe. Haven't shot it in 10 or so years. I have three 6.5 Creedmoor's by different manufacturers that shoot half MOA with factory ammo( Hornady, I get it all at cost) and better with handloads. For Hunting both are a great choice. If you want to play the numbers game like most do but will never shoot either far enough to make a difference. The 6.5 Creedmoor smokes the 7-08.

I was never impressed with the 6.5 creed was more impressed with the 6.5 x 47 but now I have a change of heart when I seen a few creeds loaded with RL16 and the Lapua srp brass. velocity @ 2900 fps with 140 pills with extreme accuracy. I now have one being built by Alex Wheeler https://www.wheeleraccuracy.com/ it should be ready in a couple weeks. the 7mm 08 is fully capable but if i'm gonna shoot a 7 of some sort I would choose a cartridge that can push a 180 grain pill like a 284 win or a 280 AI.

I have 2 model 7's for the grandsons, both in 7-08. But my favorite is this lightweight Browning Titanium. For when the range and weight of the "Big Guns" isnt needed. A joy to pack and shoot! And it hovers right at 1/4" on good days👍

True, but it takes the 147 eld match to do it in factory ammo. Unfortunately for me, my CM barrel doesn't like the 147's. And its hard to load against what Hornady has already accomplished from the factory on those. But the 162's for the 7-08 should get it there
I smell something brewing at hornady for the 6.5. Hard to imagine they'd produce the 6.5prc and not introduce a 155 or 160 for it and I know its capable of more than the advertised 147@ 2900.Anyone heard any rumors? If that happens I'll be cleaning out the safe
