Bow Accesory Questions
« on: March 07, 2009, 11:06:51 PM »
I just bought my first bow and it has everything except a stablizer.  What is a good stablizer to get?  Also what is a good block style target to get?  Thanks

I will just say what ever tickles your fancy!  :)  I would suggest a bag target for field points.  As for Stabilizer It is all about personal preferance.

For hunting purposes, stablizers are probably the least important thing you could put on a bow.

I have very carefully selected everything that is on my bows, but my stablizer is 15 years old.

I bought the biggest & best last year for my Mathews & shot good. I hunt 2 miles up on the ridge & now am thinking about taking it off. For my style of hunting I don't think its needed, adds weight & size to the bow. I wish now I would of bought the DXT instead of the Drenalin also. This year I'm going to take it off and also go for a back pack quiver. Find a shop that has a range & shoot a few different ones until you find the one you like. Mike

I really like FUSE accessories, but I have a NAP shock blocker on my bow.  :chuckle:

A lot of people use a Limsaver($20.00). I use a Doinker 7" for hunting. Bag targets work well. Also the Block target.

A rotten stump is the best.
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. fuse makes great stabilizers.. the morrel yellow jacket targets are the best IMO, the broadhead and field point are both top notch

For the money I would also go with the morrel yellow jacket targets or just get the ones that sportsman warehouse makes. The block targets are way overpriced IMO. Bag style targets aren't the best for me my arrows go right through them with a few hundred shots, though they are affordable. If you go with that style target make sure you have a back stop. I am not sure about the stabilizer, I just use one of those limsavers. It helps with vibration and noise.

Here is a short article on stabilizers that was on Bowsite.com that you might find useful in deciding in what stabilizer to buy or what you want in a stabilizer.

For hunting I use a 7 inch Fuse, for 3D I use a posten 12"..... if you want a great stab.... google Posten stabilizers... or add dot com after posten!  His woodsman is what I'll be going to for this year's hunting.

I would recommend the Morrell bag targets, I use the Outdoor range but the Super Duper is good also and not so spendy.  As far as stabilizers if you are not getting something 10" or longer it probably isn't doing much stabilizing, most people that put on a stabilizer for hunting are only getting vibration dampening.  The Fuse products do a nice job of dampening.

Any target will do it just depends on what your shooting into it. Just dont go to cheep or you will regret it. As far as stabilizers go i have a FUSE and i am happy with it. I would buy another one of i had to replace the old one. :twocents:
