Crap monkeys, now I'm on to possibly getting a .223 bolt action vs. my original hankering for a .17. HMR or WSM.  Geesh, its funny how things evolve and roll around. 

Sooo campers, what are your thoughts on a reasonably priced .223 bolt action boom stick manufacturer for range and varmints?  I keep getting stuck on the Ruger American for the price point and current ratings.  Thoughts?

Do you own/have you shot savage before?
The axis xp can be had same price ish as the American And is great right out of the box!
Don’t have any experience with the American but relatives and friends have the axis or axis 2 (axis with accutrigger and slightly better scope) and they all love theirs

I seriously hate Tikka's but the bottom line is, they kill stuff just the same! I'll never own one, be seen with one or have a WUSS that owns one,  be near me, in my truck or in my camp. 

I like to rock a Rem700 for Yote's and Chuck's.

Now that I think about it. There are several old school boys here locally that hold several world records for the "Hunter benchrest class".  I sat beside them at a little local range(Number 2 Canyon) not to be confused with the "Drama" NCW Range (Which will be much better now👍). One of them was shooting a Ruger Predator with the Nosler 69gr CC's. Solid 1/4 MOA for 5 shot groups. Impressive for a $379.00  factory rifle.

I keep thinking that I "need" a bolt action .223 as well.  I'd probably go with the Ruger American ranch because they are so easy to carry.  I don't care much for their magazine but I hear they are coming out with a new design.

Also speaking of savage I have the DOA hunter (the trophy hunter with a better scope) and it’s amazing so if you wanted to step above the axis and go for the trophy hunter that would be a terrific option for you. They also make a hog hunter series chambered in .223 that’s great for Varmints!

I would second the CZ for a light weight, accurate 223. Have 2,  one with the deep bluing and blonde stock. My go-to when setting up to call

About twelve or so years ago I was at Sportsman Warehouse casually looking around and they had these little 20in heavy barrel Weatherby Vanguard (Howa) .223's on sale for right at $300.  Didn't really need it but after fondling it for a few minutes it seemed like a pretty decent little gun for the money so I took it home.  It turned out to be one of the best shooting factory guns I've ever owned.  Sold it to a friend of mine that is still shooting it and couldn't be happier.  I'm not sure what they're like now but if I was in the market for another inexpensive .223, I wouldn't hesitate on buying another one.

The Ruger Americans seem to be the gun to beat right now. I just don't like the action on them, all the one's I've felt have been gritty and rough.

I love the CZ 527s, but they're a step up in price over guns like the Axis, Ruger Predator and the other low cost guns.

If a person is looking for something in the price range of a new CZ 527 I don't think you'll be disappointed.  I've got three of them now, all in different cartridges, and for a off the shelf factory gun, they're sweet little rifles.

I really don't have much need for one but every time I see Yorke's little CZ 527 semi custom 6.5 Grendel, it makes me want one.
