Chiappa Double Badger

I've been looking at these Chiappa Double Badgers as a pest whacker and grouse getter. Anyone have any experience with them? I don't expect a $300 gun to be an heirloom piece, but if anyone has any input on the quality and accuracy of these, I'd really appreciate it. I'm leaning toward the .22lr/20 gauge setup. I would likely add a low power scope or red dot.

I did read a report about a couple of them causing unintended misfires of the .22 barrel when the breech was snapped shut, but those are 4 years old.

Those are out of production, aren't they? Otherwise I would just buy one of those. I don't any more convincing about how awesome Savages are.

So far the Savage model 42 is only available in 22lr/22mag& 410. They are ugly as sin also. I belive Remington was importing Bakail that made double guns as well.

@AWS has more experience with combo guns and Drillings than me.

I am surprised a manufacture has not produced a combo gun in 223 12ga. I would have to buy it just to take coyote calling.

I really like the 223 because I already have one, and ammo is plentiful and cheep. 243 may be doable, especially since you could hunt bear with it also.

For the popular calibers those used savages bring some healthy $. Even the 357 20 gauge ones have gone more than $500 in the past.

The 30,30 12 gauge looks pretty good for a west side yote gun not to mention it's ability to kill everything else with iron sights.

I have a Double little badger.  22wm and .410.  Shoot great.   I only put about 10 rounds down each.  Never had a problem.  They aren't light.  It must go a easy 10lbs.  I have an early Remington 740 woodsmaster that is lighter.

Having owned a Sav 24 in 223/20ga and handled one of the Chiappa's the Chiappa's has it all over the Savage.  First no selector on the nose of the hammer, it has two triggers with instant selection of barrel without having to move your hand, no hammer to cock, it has a safety again being able to put into instant use with just the flip of a thumb and just slide the safety back on if you don't take the shot not having to let the hammer back down, choke tubes so you can tailor your your needs, steel or lead shot, buckshot or #9's.  Pretty decent sights for potting grouse in our dimly lit forest of the west side.

If they made one in 22H, (having a rim on the brass saves a lot of money on producing the extractor) I'd buy one right away.

There are quite a few used 222Rem/12ga out there in the $600-$800 range in Tikkas and Valmets

I shoot a 22 Savage Highpower/12ga Made by BRNO and a 5.6x50R Mag/12ga by Bernardelli.  Both are sub-MOA guns and very well regulated.

How you think it handled? One of the reasons I wanted it was I thought it would be more pleasant to lug around all day than my 28" 870 express 12gauge.

That could be a really cool setup, but its way outside the scope of what I'm trying to do. I want an easy handling carry-along gun for grouse and rabbits and whatnot.

I sounds like you had better find a shop with the 22 20gauge and go hold/swing One for yourself!
