Just wanting to know any of your thoughts on the seminar Randy did at Bobs this weekend.  I was not very impressed but I did not go there thinking I would be.  I have done a ton of yote hunting and called in hundereds over the years and didn't think he would tell me anything I haven't already seen, heard, or read.  I am not at all saying I am better than him or know it all, but most a his seminar was him saying that he didn't either, and that what he does has worked for him and honestly couldn't tell us why.  Like a lot of callers he has found a technique that works for him and sticks to it.

At least he is honest about it.
What I can't stand is the writers that obviously read online stories or ideas and then write about them in magazines as if it were their own idea.

That is true, and that is one thing that I talked to my buddy about after.  I told him that no matter what happens or how big the guy is in the predator hunting community he seems pretty level headed and not about the fame.  I was just hoping to get something out of it that I could use in the field.  Maybe if I had never been and didn't know the ringers of predator hunting, I would have walked away with more to lean on.  But it was pretty cool to see him.  I even got a chance to talk with him one on one for a half and hour or so before the seminar so that was a good experience in itself.

i thought it was pretty much the same as if you watched his mastering the art video. he pretty much said the same stuff and it lasted just as long. whats good to see that i noticed wasnt in the seminar but like was stated previously it was his attitude. he was very down to earth and just seemed like a normal guy that got a good break in life and doesnt rub it in your face. i talked to him briefly before the seminar today and he seemed totally down to earth which was nice.

+1.  If there is one constant to coyote hunting, it is that is varies wildly from area to area.  The number one thing you can do to be more successful is to learn more about the coyotes biology and behavior in the area you hunt.  Coyotes are probably the most adaptable animal in North America.  If you know the basics all anyone else can add to that is, what they might do in certain situations, or how they would approach the stand.  Calling is a fairly repetitive process, but gauging how a coyote might respond, or trying to figure out why a coyote didn't respond when you sound perfect, had a perfect approach, and are in a perfect area, is what makes it fun.

Those seminars are meant to introduce the basics to new coyote hunters.  The Q&A session is when you get your chance to ask questions about coyote behavior and how they would handle certain situations.  You will almost always pick up something you can at least try out in your area to see if it works.

If you have seen his "mastering" video and the other vids of his, what more else could he tell ya? It doesnt seem to be rocket science (although, I obviously need all the practice/tips I can get) for yotes. Learn the howls, what they mean, watch the wind/scent, have a decent rifle and be able to shoot it, add a decoy if ya can, call it good.

It would have been cool to meet him. Too bad he doesnt stop by Bellevue..

there is alway's something new to learn in coyote hunting. why did the coyote come into a cat setup yesterday on me Markts and his son. we seen a bobcat tuck into the timber. we snuck in to try and call it in. i started with Titmouse Tantrum's for a few minute's. then bobcat in heat for a couple minute's. then i did kitten distress for 3 minute's. then started Hailing hard i went to Lucky bird. a couple minute's later boom. pretty coyote came in over a little ridge. Markts missed. why did the coyote come in to cat sound's. alway's something new to learn. Randy is a great guy. met him at the world predator  expo last year. he and Rick Pailet stopped by my booth. he said nice Howler's bear. will away's remember that. what will be new next year. a triple estrous chirp sound. Rick

Im not saying there is nothing new to learn, just saying that pretty much the basics are outlined on his vids....other than some other new story he could tell, and/or peoples individual experience/stories, I would think it would be pretty limited. I am jealous of those who got to go though.  His vids are what got me into calling...that, and this site.

sorry was talking about Furbearer365.  he said he already knew everything. he might. there is alway's stuff to learn. new call's in a area is good. alot of the guy's on the east coast use primos call's. there the easyest to get. change up is good. Rick

Hey bearmanric, by no means was I saying that i knew everything and I apologize if I came off that way because that could not be further from the truth.   I wasn't at all meaning anything bad or disrespectful about him at all.  I think the guy is a pioneer of the sport and I give him mad respect.  I know there is always something to learn, why do you think I was 3 hours early and sat in the front row.  What I meant was I thought that maybe he would give more situational advice.  Maybe talk about things to do different when things aren't going your way.  One guy at the seminar asked about what kinds of things can he do to better his chances in the rain, Randy's answer was simply "I don't know, I don't hunt in the rain."  I hope that everyone knows about wind direction, sun at your back, and the fact he likes to use vocalization.  I to like using vocalization partly due to him, and has worked tremendously over the years.   I asked him before the seminar about fog because where I go on the east side it can be dense and the coyotes really change their attitude, his reply was not to call at all if they hold up, or set up closer to the coyotes.  How the hell do I know were closer is when half the time they won't even bark and the fog is to thick to see a potentially better spot.  Once again I will never claim to know everything about coyote hunting and will always listen to every bit of info someone has to pass on, was just giving my opinion on that specific seminar from my standpoint.

I wish I knew about it! Would've loved to take my boy down and let Randy meet one of his littlest fans! My son (who's two) will post up in front of the tv and watch an entire movie, absolutely cracking up whenever a dog gets dropped! He'll actually pick through the dvds, passing up Nemo, Veggietales, and others to grab a hunting show and bring it to me... I love it!

My son and I went and we sat in the front row.  I've been calling since I was a kid....a long time ago, what impressed me was how humble Mr. Anderson is.  Although he obviously knows more than most, he doesn't pretend to know everything, which is a real good idea in my opinion.  He says after 41 years, he is still learning.  We got there early and sat through 30 minutes of a steelhead seminar, put on by someone who really knows everything about how to catch fish, at least that's what he kept saying.  I'd rather hear Mr. Anderson sing than sit through arrogance like that.  I was definately impressed with his attitude, especially one on one.  I even used him as an example to my kids when we got home.  I've always told them (my kids) to find something they really love doing, then figure out a way to make a living at it.  Bottom line, Randy Anderson is a great guy living a great life.
