EGR Delete in King County?
« on: January 26, 2018, 02:10:43 PM »
I have a 2011 F250 with the 6.7 powerstroke in it and have had the standard EGR issues, so I'm ready to delete. Before I take the plunge though, I wanted to make sure I'm not going to run into any issues.

Question 1: I don't have to do emissions now, is the emissions system on a rolling timetable? (will I have to do it once the truck reaches a certain age?) I don't want to get screwed in 5 years if I delete it now.

Question 1A: If I do eventually have to do emissions, can I just fail the test, pay my $150 for attempting to pass, and then get a pass?

Question 2: Has anyone sold a truck with an EGR delete? How about trading it in at the dealer? Has it been a difficult sell, or was it the same as selling an untouched truck?

Thanks!

It's illegal, just to make that clear.  If you take anything off, keep it.  Once you have to do your emissions you'll need to put it back on, there is emissions test stuff sold in bottles but I have no idea if they work or are a gimmik.   EPA has put us diesel owners in an impossible conundrum, keep paying to have your truck fixed or uncork it and expect to re-cork it sometime down the road.

Just make sure you do not throw out your stock parts.

You won't/shouldn't get a shop anywhere to work on it unless they just ignore law and potential enormous fines.

You'll never pass an emission test here. You have to get a waiver from a state certified emissions shop in order to spend the $150. We're not a certified shop so I don't know all the ins and outs...but I believe you have to make an attempt at repairing the problem in order to get the waiver. In a legit shop, you can't just pay $150 for a waiver.

I think at 10 years old you'll have to do emission depending on where you live. I live in King County but don't have to do emissions at all where I live.

I thought the state wide emissions law was moonlighting in the next couple years and going away?

There is no State wide Emissions testing

Your 2011 does not require emissions testing and most likely never will, the emission test program is set to expire Dec 31st 2019

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I think it's $175 that I pay every 2 years.  First fail the test.  Go to Certified place as said above and pay the 175.  Take receipt to emissions and they waive it in the office.  Order tabs.

Missed the 2011 part.  Yep there are only certain years required for the test.  Woo hoo on the Dec 31 2019 date.

@Buckmark
So does this change the legalities of deleting the EGR system on these trucks?

No
Removing, Tampering or Altering any Emissions control device has always been and still will be Illegal under the Clean Air act, that is Federal law that applies to all states.
It has never been legal to remove, tamper or alter no matter if you had to have emissions testing or not.

A fresh air intake system is tampering/removing  :twocents:

I have never heard of anyone being caught and or fined, i am sure the EPA is not out opening hoods looking for scowflaws with egr deletes etc.

The state emissions test stations only pass/fail , waiver or no waiver if components are removed or altered and even at that they miss at times or cant tell if it has been altered if not noticeable.
