Issues with Cabelas Heavy duty Grinder
« on: February 11, 2018, 12:43:06 PM »
My wife purchased a small Cabelas Heavy Duty grinder for me for Xmas 2016. Yesterday I ground up some pork loin for making chili. Disassembled the removable metal pieces, rinsed them off and set them in the dishwasher. Ran the dishwasher last night and this morning when I emptied it I found the chrome or whatever coating they put on the metal had oxidized very heavily. Touch them and the coating came off on your hand like you were handling graphite. I contacted Cabelas customer service and they said I voided the warranty by washing them in the dishwasher. Could have pushed me over with a feather. I was under the impression that metal components used in food preperation should be "dishwasher safe." Clean and sanitize?? Did I void my warranty? Anyone else hear or have something like this happen? Did I miss something. I don't want to whine if I messed up.

Yeah, I hand wash mine only. Not supposed to put in the dishwasher.

never put aluminium in the dishwasher, it causes oxidation.  It will eventually quit oxidizing but it will take a while.

Correct, you voided the warranty.
All(most) processing stuff is hand washed and sanitized in a water bleach bath then aired dried. Never in the dishwasher.

I just got a 1/2 HP Commercial Grade for Christmas.  Those say not dishwasher safe also.  Hand wash hot soapy water.

Sorry to hear. Warranty probably voided. I only wash mine by hand

I run everything through the dishwasher.  Put some silicone lube on it when you use it again, the only thing you did was change the cosmetic look.

The manual went in the trash with the box. Glad my mistake didn't cost me a ton to replace the messed up parts.
