Herd shot at Doty , WA
« on: March 09, 2009, 03:43:23 PM »
Has anyone heard about this, My understanding is that a whole herd, cows, calves, and bulls were shot in a field and left. I also understand that the Fish and Wildlife is not going to pursue it as they don't have leads. I am just sick about this, it seems that someone should of heard it or something.

I guess I'm not hunting down there this year....
That really makes me sick.
The more I get to know the less I find that I understand.

My wifes uncle and grandma both live in Doty. I will try and get the scoop. My wifes uncle is an avid elk hunter, so he is probably pissed.

I sometimes hunt down there with my wifes uncle and we often hear shots during the night. The problem is that those people grew up poaching to put food on the table and most of the residents looked the other way because they did it too. Now times have changed, but some of the old families have not.

Unless this is a seperate account I believe the incident was in grays Harbor last saturday.

They shot, killed 3 cow's and a calf. They have no idea how many more may be injured?

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me to.

The elk down there are already hurting pretty bad with the hoof rot.  I'll be down there next week during spring break to visit my mom.  I also know a guy that works for Weyerhauser out of Pe Ell, I'll ask him if he knows anything if I bump into him.

I heard from a good sources with the WDFG and 2 timber companies down there that in fact they are purging elk down there with hoof rot and they are using AHE Hunters to do it for them.

The incident with the cows and the calfs in Grays Harbor are sperate all together.

Why would they not use the meat? Hoof rot doesn't hurt the meat at all. If that is so that is just as skick since so many people sure could use the meat.

There were two herds shot up in Grays Harbor county, the one in the North River area three cows and a calf, and on super bowl weekend there was another herd shot up near Neilton.....11 elk killed, one spike, one raghorn, the rest cows and calves.....only seven were taken, four are still laying on the ground......

If the hoof rot is bad enough it does hurt the meat.. The meat will turn all grean and slimmy and smelly!! Dont eat it if it is bad!! You will be walking with a limp next hunting season!!
Their going down!!!

Does anybody know if they will post how many animals were killed during this hoof rot round up? I would like to see the numbers, but do not think the department will post anything :twocents:

found a "winter kill" elk in the Doty walk-in a few weeks back. The coyotes had devoured everything to the two front shoulders and left the rest of the leg.

Coyotes probley won't eat it for a reason. :dunno:
