Any Experience With Howa?
« on: April 11, 2018, 12:59:48 PM »
Just curious if anyone has any experience with Howa Rifles? I'm thinking of getting the Howa Kuiu Verde rifle in 308 as it's on sale at sportsmans and from handling it in person it seems like a very solid rifle for the money right now, almost hard to beat for a light weight mountain rifle.

I have a weatherby 308 cheap vanguard (built by Howa)  Once I found the right load she is a tack driver and I mean tack driver.  I would never hesitate buying another one.

I have the same rifle as Henrydog (Weatherby Vanguard II) in .308.  I love it!  Accurate as all get out, smooth action, pretty damn decent factory trigger, and very reliable to date (I've had it about two years I think).  So yes, I think the Howa .308 would be a fine choice  ;).

I've got a Howa Alpine in the 6.5CM.  Very smooth action, lightweight gun, I really enjoy it.

I've got a vanguard in 300wm and love it. A bit more free bore when it was new than I like but it shoots well.

I won a Les Schwab sponsored Howa 1500 with a Rogue stock chambered for .270 win.  I swapped out the silly scope that came with it with a Leupold V 3 and it is as good as any rifle four times its value.

Great rifles.
I put mine in a HS precesion stock. Bedded it and topped with a leupold LRP. They come with a pretty decent adjustable trigger.
A little on the heavy side, but built well. They could charge more for em...

Best value or there in my opinion. I've got a 1500 in 300 wm great gun, planning to get another in .270 win.

Howa rifles are great rifles at surprisingly low prices. Good bolt, superb triggers. Mine in 22-250 is a tack driver, only necessary upgrade was to swap out the Nikko Sterling scope for a Zeiss.

Thanks guys for the feedback! It seems like a fantastic rifle and I'm just shocked at the sticker price and wanted to double check that I wasn't missing something.

I have a Howa 1500 in .338wm, very accurate and I’ve killed elk and mule deer with it.

Why yes I do, differently than most users but I do.

For a few years I helped out at a local gunshop doing barrel threading and rechambering.  The Howa rifle barrels were always very impressive to me regarding no out of round like a couple of other high end rifles and always dead center bore to the barrel OD. I never worked on one that was out of round or eccentric by more than .0005"

I liked them a lot!
