Bow Hunting for carp

Has anyone on here every bow hunted for carp? I have a 40-60 lb Hoyt that I was going to set up for carp fishing. Is 40 lbs to much? What system have you had good luck with on arrow retrieval. Any specific arrow? How many arrows do you really need?  June is just around the corner and I've always wanted to try this.

Used to all the time when I was young.  My bow at the time was around 45-50 If I recall.  The arrows we used were very heavy, fiberglass I think.  The broadheads had 2 heavy wires sticking back so the arrow couldn't come back through the fish.  The line spool was simple, it attached on to the front of the bow with the line being a heavy braided fishing line.  It was a blast.  Some of the real big ones would tow our canoe around if not hit real good.

I used to years ago on the Columbia in the channel behind Cresent Bar, also in the shallows at Banks. Dont have the gear anymore though.

I get out at least twice a year. I have a old martin bow that I use. It is set at 45lbs. I use an AMS retrieving system (reel). I use their slide system for the arrow as well. I hit Moses Lake or the North Potholes.............just waiting for the spawning season.

My carp bow is a Proline Matchpoint set at 80 lbs. We shoot some big fish around here, sometimes prety deep, so I like a heavy hitting bow. lots of fun

Yeah i shoot a 70 pound bow with a AMS reel and line and a fiberglass arrow (i forget the brand). I also went to using Muzzy's Brand of Fish broad head. Its an awesome setup. Your going to have a lot of fun!!!

I have been bowfishing for about 7 years.   I use a Martin JagMag set about 50 lbs with a high let-off, AMS retriever, and rest.  I also use Aluminum covered fiberglass arrows (no slivers).  It is a ton of fun, you can shoot until your arm falls off.

I have been wanting to try for a long time now! We cant bow hunt carp out on roosevelt so i would have to try else where! Makes no sense why you cant out there! Looks like tons of funs!

I think I will set my bow at 50 pounds and get an AMS real system. The last week of June every year me and a Buddy go down to the snake small mouth fishing and we came across several spots this last year that had thousands of them. They where coming within feet of my boat. This is going to be a freakin blast.  Aluminum fish arrows? Do they break easy?

Do you guys have sights on your bows? 10,20,30 yards?

Shooting with no sights works best for me.  My arrows are fiberglass and aluminum, so the are solid.  Just remember aim low!
