Always been a fan of surefire products.  Unfortunately they are big fans of their products as well $$$$$$.  I run an x300 on both my rigs.  Holster will depend on your carry situation - inside waist band, outside waistband, concealed vs open carry.  Several manufacturers of kydex holster that will "custom" make one to fit your pistol and carry needs and accept the light.

TLR-1 HL     It throws out more light at the cost of lower battery life, since its a woods gun I'll have other light for tromping around at night, usually a headlamp with a red or green bulb depending on how deep and dark it is.   If I need the weapon light I want a crap load of light because something's going to die if it comes out.
I don't need a laser in the woods, or really anywhere else for that matter.  Run time 1.75 hours, good enough.

holster

Safariiland ALS holster with low ride adapter plate so it sits just below my backpack belly belt. I don't have a hood because that can hang up on the backpack strap, it's just a thumb button.  I've crawled through nasty crap and no issues.

What specific M&P do you have?  And what do you do with it?  Is it a woods gun or EDC?  Or ??

I also like the tlr's. I have a few and I havent had an issue with them in 4 years. Battery life is short but you get a ton of light while it lasts.
Practical accuracy and a packable rifle.
Blued steel and walnut is always better.
