Patch material and lube preferences
« on: February 17, 2018, 06:41:38 AM »
Currently using on my only 1/66 roundball Shenandoah ML ....

dry, pre-cut, round pillow ticking .018, purchased from Track Of The Wolf
Mr. Flintlocks patch lube
Lehigh Valley patch lube

Both of these lubes are very similar and mixing the patches doesn't change POI

Can it go on your toast?

Use Bore Butter and melt it so you can soak it into your patches.  If you just rub it on it won’t consistently coat it the same from patch to patch.  I’ve been doing this for 25 years and have had the most consistent accuracy I’ve ever had.  It also helps keep your patch from tearing through while you are breaking in your barrel.

Yuck to Bore Butter. Stopped greasing with it almost 20 years ago.
My hunting partner swears by it and he uses it as a bore coating in his sabot-powered inline.
Good for him, for cleaning, lubing and storing that T/C Black Diamond XR correctly with Bore Butter.

My bores showed rust back then, after many months in storage, using Bore Butter. Thankfully the bore never pitted and the surface rust was all removed.

Yuck Pt-2. Glad it works for you.

I use it for patch lube.  Never for storing my guns.  I clean the barrel and put a thin coat of gun oil in there then store it muzzle down.  I have 25 year old guns with perfect barrels. Not one speck of rust.  Never a misfire since I started storing them muzzle down.
