.22 mag
« on: March 08, 2018, 05:48:05 PM »
I have a ruger 77/22 mag and shoot a lot of ground squirrels every summer. I used to always shoot Winchester 34grain hp. But they've dried up. So I tried the hornady 30grain v-max. Not happy. They shoot great. Haven't shot a paper target but empty 12 gauge hulls at 75 yards areno problem. But they don't seem to have the killing affect the Winchesters did, the Winchester turned them inside out, the hornady just seem to bore a hole through them :dunno: I'm thinking of going to the cci +v? Any input is as always appreciated!

I've always shot the CCI Maxi-Mag HP 40gr. They have performed well for me on Rockchucks and Coyote's. I've had some amazing one shot stops on Coyote's.

I shot them through a factory stock Marlin 25MN bolt rifle. It's been a great rifle over the years. I do like the Ruger 77/22 Mag. A friends has one. I have a Ruger 77 in .22 Hornet.

Right on - will have to look it up. I know those LR stingers are pretty wicked - Only ammo that will reliably cycle my AR-7

In this day and age they aren't anything that special 30 grn. hollowpoint . About the same velocity as a lot of other 30 grn. loads .

So federal and aguila and the other boys have their own version then? I always thought the stinger was special because it actually has a longer case and could hold a higher charge?
