Yes this is horrible

. RIP and at least it was doing something a guy loves and not at the hands of a drunk driver or something.
Have only gotten out to ride twice this year but have spent the last 25 years almost somewhere in the mountains. Here, the Rockies, AK.
Went to Greenwater a few weeks ago and it was an Epic day. Totally unexpected but there was 3 ft of new soft champagne powder! The likes of which I've never seen in Western WA. It wa slime being in Colorado, but I could still breathe and the trees were bigger!
Point is, a pile of mashed potatoes sticks together better than a pile of sugar. I believe some have never experienced this or even seen it before. Totally different conditions.
We all said it at the end of the ride. (The weekend of the Avy at Stampede). We were glad we didn't pick somewhere with big slopes that day or we would have been severely limited in where we could go. Actually bagged going to Gallagher that day due to I 90 traffic. Just dumb luck really.
Moving to WA 7 years ago, I was blown away by the inherent stability of the slopes here, in general, coming from the soft dry snow in the Rockies, where you could slide a hill on any given day even in low or moderate conditions. I believe this one good powder layer, now with a couple dumps of wet snow again has made for bad conditions that most have never seen around here and don't recognize.
Stay safe out there.
